We are thrilled to introduce Organic Sumatra Rahmat Kinara Mandheling Fair Trade Grade 1 coffee from the Aceh province of Sumatra—a wet-hulled bourbon blend like no other. This remarkable coffee offers a luscious harmony of green grape, dark chocolate, and brown sugar, finished with a subtle cinnamon that lingers in a creamy, balanced body.
Deep-rooted tradition shapes life in Aceh, a region celebrated for its exceptional cup profiles and classic Indonesian approach to coffee cultivation. Here, coffee is grown on small family farms averaging less than three acres. The producers, belonging to the Gayonese ethnic group, maintain a traditional village lifestyle, where even their homes resemble ships. Remarkably, 70% of these farmers are women, whose livelihood depends on coffee to support their families.
At the heart of this effort is the Rahmat Kinara Cooperative, representing nearly 1,200 dedicated coffee producers. The cooperative plays a vital role in overcoming the challenges of small-scale farming by managing local warehouses and transportation. Farmers deliver wet-hulled coffee to the cooperative, where it undergoes meticulous drying and dry-milling before swiftly reaching the international market. This process ensures consistent quality, reliable earnings, and a brighter future for the producers.
